I decided to depict the experience I had when my grandmother passed away at the end of my summer in 2012. I wanted to create an image that displayed the grief that overwhelmed my being when I was coping with her death so I created jagged edges all around the central image to convey a message of possessing a shattered reality that was bittersweet. The birds which are ironically within the broken frame are meant to represent my grandmother's freedom. I used both graphite and black acrylic paint to create this image.
